Dawn of the Ancients
50,000 yrs ago – 400 yrs ago
With the end of the Draco Wars came a time of exploration and expansion for the races that had once been under the rule of the dragons and the giants. This included conflict as well between the newly-liberated peoples of elves, dwarves, and dragonborn. The dragonborn were well-situated after the wars of liberation were over, as they had been akin to favored servitors of the dragons due to their close relation. The dragonborn were perceived with animosity from the elven and dwarven peoples, as their own slavery had been more harsh. This hostility resulted in open warfare which saw the dragonborn people decimated. While not extinguished, they did not play a part in the coming era as a whole after this time. With the dragonborn largely gone, the elves and dwarves turned their efforts to more peaceful pursuits. They explored and mapped the world and built up great kingdoms and empires. Without their giant and dragon overlords, the smaller races flourished. This meant that other races too had a chance to grow, including the goblinoid and orc races, who often came into conflict with one another, and the elves and dwarves. Humans too grew in this time, learning about magic and slowly starting to build up their own settlements and small nations. The elven people suffered from terrible civil wars during this time, which saw the formation of the drow as a result. An entire nation of dwarves also vanished, resurfacing centuries later as the mutated duergar. These losses, combined with other struggles, saw the gradual declination of dwarven and elven influence in the world at large as their dominance was chipped away by strife, both internal and external, as well as the growth of humanity in particular.
